Overview

We are currently looking for a Machine Operator for our 2nd shift to join our vegetable processing facility in Ogden, UT. This position is responsible for the mechanical maintenance and operation of assigned packaging line(s).

Schedule:  3:45pm to 2:15am

Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with Supervisors, Maintenance, and production workers to meet productivity standards.
  • Set up line for production runs.
  • Continually monitor packaging equipment, product, packaging and personnel for the production run.
  • Effectively maintain safety, quality and production standards for each production run.
  • Perform minor mechanical duties including minor repair of all line equipment.
  • Maintain and operate ink jet coders as well as case printers.
  • Refer all electrical/electronic problems to the maintenance department and ensure resolution of issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on line equipment as scheduled.
  • Communicate progress of line to Supervisor/Manager.
  • Correct errors on line.
  • Actively develop solutions to limit operational downtime.
  • Assist organizing and cleaning production line area throughout shift.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Follow all Company policies and procedures, which include SOP’s, Employee Handbook, Food Safety and Quality Procedures, Food Quality Policies, GMP Handbook, HACCP, and Pictsweet Safety Procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Capability of running two or more lines and/or performing general mechanical duties.
  • Maintain and repair basic mechanical operations of line equipment and assist on more complex repairs.
  • Understand basic mathematical computation.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, weigh machines, metal detectors, Bosch baggers, and material handling systems.
  • Basic understanding of electrical controls.
  • Advanced understanding of packaging systems.
  • Read or interpret documents such as safety rules/ signs, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and written in English, with management and co-workers.
  • Foster cooperative team environment.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Consistently meet efficiency standards for a sustained period.
  • Consistently meet goals for film and product waste reduction.

EDUCATION

  • Prefer one year experience as a machine operator (or related craft).
  • Prefer one-year experience in direct operation and maintenance of machinery similar to those used by Pictsweet.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Frequently lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Regularly stand, climb, walk, squat, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Work effectively in cold, wet and loud environment for up to 10 hours.
  • Climb and descend steep stairs.
  • Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent repetitive motion involving wrists, hands, fingers, and shoulders.
  • Consistent repetitive motion involving wrists, hands, fingers, and shoulders.
